Over the past 24 hours in Serbia five more people have died from the coronavirus bringing the toll to 130, according to an April 21 statement.

Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar told a news conference that, meanwhile, 260 newly infected had been registered bringing the case count to 6,890.

A total of 3,660 people have be hospitalized of whom 101 are on ventilators.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on April 21 that said that he did not believe that the authorities had given too much ground by "relaxing measures" to fight the pandemic in Serbia and that the changes would mean a lot to the demographic groups that they were intended for.

He called the decision necessary and rational, and added that it would be different when a more serious easing of measures - such as reactivating inner city transportation was decided on. He stressed that it was imperative to "rekindle life" in the country.

The authorities are now allowing three weekly walks for senior citizens above the age of 65. The have also rolled back a daily curfew by one hour and allowed the opening of craft shops and maintenance centers.
