European Commission

The European Commission had adopted the proposal to remove restrictions on exports of medical equipment from the EU to the Western Balkans, the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in a release on April 28.

"The Commission has just proposed changes to the procedure for obtaining export permits in accordance with your needs as it has been shortening the list of items requiring permits, while in parallel exempting the Western Balkans from the procedure", it is said in a joint letter of European Commission Vice President Josep Borrell, Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan and Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi.

According to the letter to the Western Balkan foreign minister, the EU also expects the removal of any restrictions at national levels concerning exports of personal protective equipment from the Western Balkans to the EU.

In the joint letter, the EU officials said that the EU was fully committed to international cooperation and continued assistance to the most vulnerable countries across the globe, particularly to the Western Balkan countries as its closest partners.
