The director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Ghebreyesus, promised on May 4 that the organization would support Serbia in running the project "Sustainable production of a serological ELISA for antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 virus," the Office of the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reported.

The WHO has launched the project in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in order to produce new and innovative solutions or replicate those that are available to service and care providers in the fight against Covid-19, reducing to a minimum the risk of spreading the virus and removing the consequences of the outbreak, the Office went on to say in a press release.

The plan is that the Faculty of Chemistry and the Institute for Application of Nuclear Energy be the two leading organizations in charge of the project, working together with two partners, the Institute for Virology, Vaccines and Serums "Torlak" and the Clinical Center of Serbia.

In a phone conversation President Vucic welcomed the WHO's efforts, underlining that Serbia had respected the organization's guidelines and that he was pleased with the results of Serbia's efforts to fight the virus and protect its citizens against it. Ghebreyesus praised Serbia's results and underlined that his organization would continue to support the country through the project, and in its further efforts to advance the national healthcare system.
