Democratic Party
On June 30, the Democratic Party called on fellow opposition caucuses to accept the urging of the country’s protesting university students and withdraw from the National Assembly.
“Our MPs haven’t participated in this institution for more than six months, aware that its existence serves solely as a screen for [President of Serbia] Aleksandar Vucic’s authoritarian regime,” the Democratic Party stated.
The Movement for the Restoration of the Kingdom of Serbia, which forms the NADA coalition with the New Democratic Party of Serbia, recalled that it, too, has been abstaining from participating in the National Assembly for half a year and commended the opposition parties that have announced they will join boycott.
According to the Movement, the persecution of protesting university students and members of the general public “shows that the regime is losing support and resorting to violence to maintain its hold.” The organization’s president invited all monarchists and the rest of the public to “stand in defense of freedom, justice and democracy.”
On June 30, the university students who have been blockading their schools since late November 2024 called on the opposition to boycott the National Assembly of Serbia, a decision that has so far been backed by the Environmental Uprising as well.
