Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorivic said on May 7 that the epidemic in Serbia is weakening, but not the virus.
Tiodorovic told Prva TV that the virus is not weakening, but that there are fewer sources of infection.
He recalled that the end of the state of emergency in the country does not mean that preventive measures should be abandoned.
“Masks will remain a part of our lives for a long time. Washing your hands regularly, keeping the two-meter distance from the person you are talking to – all of this should still be done,” said Tiodorovic, adding that the situation with the virus will be monitored throughout June as well.
On May 6, the Serbian Parliament, with a majority vote, adopted a proposal to abolish the state of emergency introduced on March 15 due to the coronavirus epidemic as well as a bill confirming the validity of decrees the Serbian government, with a signed approval by the Serbian president, passed while the state of emergency was in effect.
Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said during the debate in Parliament that “Serbia has reason to be proud,” and that a large number of Serbian citizens should also be credited with the success in fighting the epidemic.
