Parliament speaker Maja Gojkovic on May 26 had a video conferencing with European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur for Serbia Vladimir Bilcik and Chair of the EP Delegation to Serbia Tanja Fajon to discuss activities carried out toward improving conditions for holding the upcoming parliamentary elections in Serbia.

Gojkovic said that everything agreed in three rounds of the inter-parliamentary dialogue had been fulfilled and was being implemented, recalling that changes and supplements to the law had been passed and that the election of members of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) and the Supervisory Committee had been completed. She added that following a meeting with representatives of political parties who would run in the elections, validation of voter signatures, aside from notaries public, could also be done by municipal and city administrations.

Gojkovic added that invitations to monitor the election process had earlier been sent to the EP and the parliamentary assemblies of the Council of Europe, the OSCE and the Mediterranean, according to a release from the Serbian parliament.

Fajon said it was important to ensure integrity of the election process as it was equally important for those running and the citizens to secure their trust in the election process. She also pointed to the importance of credible reporting on the election process, it is said in the release.
