Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated on July 1 that 70 percent of all infected people in Serbia were in Belgrade and that the capital was also seeing the highest daily numbers of new infections.
Brnabic told the TV Prva that "for this reason, the crisis task force decided on June 29 that masks are mandatory in closed spaces, especially when using public transport," but that no stricter measures would be introduced yet, because that would be perilous for the economy.
She said that "there are not enough inspectors to control" the implementation of measures, "so personal responsibility is important."
To the question about whether this situation would lead to the introduction of new, stricter measures for suppressing the epidemic in Belgrade, Brnabic replied that "measures will be implemented if necessary" but that everyone was working towards that not taking place.
Commenting on the situation regarding the epidemic in Novi Pazar, Brnabic said that "positively, there were omissions" in that city and that she was "not hiding from responsibility." According to information published by Prva TV, around 500 persons have been registered as infected with the corona virus in Novi Pazar.
