Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic addressed the citizens of Serbia on July 9, saying that the state will know how to “protect peace and stability despite criminal and violent attacks from thugs,” which, according to him, “have shocked everyone.”

In a video call that was posted on the official Buducnost Srbije (The Future of Serbia) Instagram account, Vucic compared the July 8 riots in Novi Sad with the entry on Nazi occupying forces into the city in 1941, and asked all citizens “in both Belgrade and Novi Sad, and all other cities, not to confront the thugs.”

"We will be doing that as a state. We will do it, and we shall prevail. We will preserve peace for our country. Surrender has never been an option,” Vucic said.

“I’m now flying to Paris to fight for our Serbia. I’ll be seeing you soon. Serbia is winning,” he added in a video message recorded on the plane to Paris, where, on July 9, he is to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Vucic is supposed to participate in the Paris Summit on Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, scheduled for July 10, along with Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Kosovo Prime Minster Avduallah Hoti, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, and EU Special Representative for the Serbia-Kosovo Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak.
