Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in Paris that Belgrade was ready for the renewed dialog with Pristina on July 12, and that if Pristina backed out of the meeting in Brussels, it would be illustrative of what role each side played.
After meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Vucic told reporters late on July 9 that "people in Europe and the world are sure to understand" what the role of each side is if Kosovo's representatives do not show up in Brussels over the weekend for the scheduled dialog session with Serbia.
"But what the Americans' reaction will be -- that's another story. That's between them," Vucic added, noting that he had "heard rumors that the Albanians may not come," going on to say that he had not had time to speak with Miroslav Lajcak, the European Union's special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialog, who had sent him a message that evening.
Vucic said he was concerned over the possible obstruction of the dialog, because Belgrade needed stability and security preserved for the sake of the Serbs in Kosovo. Vucic is slated to go to Brussels from Paris and to resume the EU-mediated dialog there with Kosovo Premier Avdulah Hoti on July 12. The dialog was halted in November 2018, and Vucic has never met with Hoti, who became premier of Kosovo on June 3.
According to recent announcements, work on reaching a comprehensive legally binding agreement on normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo is to be renewed in this meeting, and it should encompass all unresolved issues.
On the video-summit between Serbia and Kosovo in Paris, on July 10, hosted by Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Vucic said he did not "think there will be a lot of results," but that "some kind of principles will be found."
