The New Party has said on Sept. 28 that in the wake of increasingly frequent unfavorable international reports on the state of democracy in Serbia, the state has been sinking deeper under the Serbian Progressive Party, warning that "the terror of Aleksandar Vucic's regime has eliminated Serbia from the category of democracies."
The latest analysis by V-Dem Institute, University of Gothenburg, has placed Serbia among the states reporting a significant autocratization surge over the past ten years, and what the New Party finds particularly devastating is the fact that Serbia ranked 139th, out of 179 states," below North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and even the so-called Kosovo.
The New Party has warned that it's precisely rampant corruption and growing private interests, coupled with the abuses of power and terror of Aleksandar Vucic's regime, that expelled Serbia from the category of democracies and defined it as autocracy, which is a humiliating development for a state that should have been on the path to full membership of the European Union (EU).
