LAJCAK: VUCIC RAISES LEGITIMATE QUESTION OF SERBIA'S EU PERSPECTIVE.

The European Union's special envoy for normalization talks between Serbia and Kosovo, Miroslav Lajcak, has said that Brussels expects Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to make "a far-reaching decision" on Kosovo, and that he has every right to ask if the EU will offer Serbia a European outlook in return, Deutsche Welle quoted the EU representative as saying on Oct. 11.

"We expect him (Vucic) to make a far-reaching decision, and he wants to know how I can explain to the citizens that it is for their benefit? The negotiating process has been connected to the country's European perspective from the beginning, and now Vucic is wondering just how realistic a prospect this is for Serbia," Lajcak said in an interview with Austria's Wiener Zeitung.

When asked by the Vienna-based paper's journalist if motivation was missing for an agreement to happen, because the EU states haven't been interested in accepting new members for years, something that President Vucic has also criticized, Lajcak said that the Serbian president "is raising a legitimate question."

Lajcak said that the hardest thing was to "relaunch the dialogue," reiterating that the purpose of the dialogue was a binding comprehensive agreement. "We are currently discussing very complex issues, including financial claims and ownership rights," Lajcak said.
