Immunologist: It’s Most Important To Keep Virus Spread under Control

An immunologist and member of the Crisis Headquarters, Srdja Jankovic, on Oct. 27 said that the epidemiological situation in Serbia was threatening to worsen with an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, stressing that everything had to be done to prevent a rapid spread of the virus.

“We see that the trend is not good and we have been trying to stop the increase at a level where the healthcare system and human lives will not be endangered,” Jankovic told state public broadcaster RTS, adding that it was most important to keep the epidemic under control and limit the number of new cases.

Jankovic stressed that at the moment, the focus was on curbing the number of new Covid-19 cases primarily by controlling gatherings, keeping physical distance and wearing face covering outdoors and indoors.

“Countermeasures could be made more restrictive, but the essence is to implement the measure as stricter measures will not help unless respected,” Jankovic said and announced the use of rapid tests.

Public Health Institute Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut Director Verica Jovanovic has said that at the moment, no closure of schools is planned over the worsening epidemiological situation. She stressed that the crucial mission of the entire society is to respect precautions and block the virus spread by cutting social contact.
