Branislav Tiodorovic, a member of the Serbian COVID-19 Response Team, said on Feb. 1 that the epidemiological situation in the country is “rather serious” and called on the public to respect the preventive measures.
Tiodorovic told the RTS public service that currently the elderly are especially threatened and that children are contracting the disease more frequently. He added that the number of positive covid cases is higher than the number of hospitalized patients, and that medical workers and teachers account for a large share of those affected.
Tiodorovic also said that greater caution and respect for the prescribed anti-epidemic measures are necessary in the course of February. He warned that the situation may worsen if “more serious emergence” of the flu takes place.
He emphasized once more the importance of vaccination. The RTS reported that in Serbia in January there were around 400,000 persons infected with the virus and that the number of those who died of COVID-19 is on the rise.
