Around two thirds of Serbian citizens believe that politicians abuse authority for personal interests, while more than half believe that there was no democracy in the country, or that it was burdened by serious problems. These are the results of an opinion poll of the Belgrade Center for Security Policy, published on Nov. 18.
The people believe that the Serbian Parliament has the least influence on bringing political decisions, less than domestic "tycoons" and foreign companies, as well as major foreign powers, while 90 percent of those interviewed believe that President Aleksandar Vucic was the key figure in bringing political decisions, the Center has stated.
More than 50 people of those interviewed believe that the police do not protect the people, but the interests of criminals, politicians and financially powerful individuals, and viewed the political parties, the judiciary and the police as the most corrupt.
The poll also showed the great apathy of the citizens, reflected in their reluctance to participate in activists' initiatives, since only 20 percent are prepared to venture into such activities, the Center has stated.
