Immunologist Srdja Jankovic, a member of the national COVID-19 Crisis Headquarters, said on Nov. 23 that “for now” it is still not the right moment for schools in Serbia to switch to online teaching.

Jankovic, however, could not say when the right moment would be; only that Serbia is getting closer to it.

“We base the decision to transition to online teaching on how much the virus has infiltrated [our] schools. It’s not the right time; yet, even now we have entire classes and institutions switching to online teaching when a transmission among students and teachers occurs,” Jankovic told the Pink TV.

Calling the epidemiological situation in Serbia “extremely serious,” he said that the medical professionals in the Crisis Headquarters, should there be a need, will advocate the introduction of even stricter measures than those coming into force on Nov. 24.
