Cvijetin Milivojevic, a political analyst, said on Dec. 23 that accepting a new criminal act defined as "exposing to ridicule the families of highest-ranking state officials" would be most harmful precisely to Serbian officials, as the move could propel a series of lawsuits against Aleksandar Vucic and his aides.

Milivojevic said to BETA that hate speech, offenses and threats against political opponents were not invented by the opposition, but used at abandon by the authorities in Serbia, led by the Serbian Progressive Party and President Vucic, supported by their own "bot artillery."

"I don't think such a law will be passed, not because the authorities do not want it, but because after a report by the European Commission on Oct. 6 it would be another nail in Serbia's foot on the country's path to the European Union," Milivojevic said.
