The Metropolitan of Dabar and Bosnia Hrizostom served the Christmas liturgy in the Cathedral of St. Sava in Belgrade in the morning of Jan. 7, on the most joyous Christian holiday that marks the birth of Jesus Christ.

The epistle of the Serbian Orthodox Church was read during the service, in which believers were urged to adhere to the measures in the fight against the coronavirus, because that would not demonstrate the absence of faith, but the honoring of the sanctity of life, while health professionals were referred to as the children of God who make a selfless sacrifice in treating the sick.

"Be proud and dignified. We are an ancient Christian nation which has become the part of the culture of the entire Christian world, through baptism, the heritage of Cyril and Methodius and education of St. Sava," the epistle read.

After a longer period of time, the liturgy was served in the Cathedral of St. Sava instead of in the crypt, because the major works have been completed. The first Christmas liturgy in the Cathedral of St. Sava was served at midnight by the Bishop of Remesiana Stevan, the dean of the Cathedral.
