COVID-19 Crisis Headquarters Member Predrag Kon said on Feb. 1 that a total of 450,000 people have been vaccinated against the virus in Serbia so far, adding that the mentioned number is far below Serbia’s population and therefore insufficient for the development of the so-called herd immunity.
“We need to vaccinate around 1.5 million people before we can say that these kinds of [epidemic] waves won’t be repeated. That’s thrice the number of people we’ve vaccinated so far,” Kon said for Prva TV.
Wearing masks indoors is still mandatory, he added, saying that the measure will be revoked once the virus is no longer circulating. Those who got vaccinated will not be required to wear masks when the virus activity starts to decline, he affirmed.
State Secretary in the Ministry of Health Mirsad Djerlek gave a statement for the RTS public service on the same day, saying that the interest in vaccination is much higher than expected and that over 850,000 people have applied to receive the shot.
