On Feb. 11, the Dveri movement called for a referendum on the law on same-sex partnership which they see as a first step toward the legalization of same-sex marriages and adoption by homosexual couples.
“This new law means that we have to accept a new system of values which has never been a part of the Serbian traditional society which is based on the natural family as a marriage between a man and a woman,” the movement’s statement reads.
The purpose of the law is to reduce the significance of the traditional family values, to change the constitutional definition of marriage and family, and to “send a message that a family no longer matters, marriage no longer matters, which will result in childbirth no longer mattering, having becoming obsolete; and that what’s in trend is something entirely different, represented by the homosexual ideology,” the Dveri believe.
The movement is of the opinion that the law in question serves to promote the political homosexual ideology and has nothing to do with anyone’s rights being threatened.
“This law represents a test run for something that comes after, which is the request to legalize the adoption of children by same-sex couples, which directly threatens the rights of a child to grow and develop in a natural family. By adopting this law, the basic moral family and societal values will be destroyed,” Dveri concluded.
