Epidemiologist Ivana Prokic has said that those who rallied to commemorate the deceased singer-songwriter, Djordje Balasevic, without protection or regard for the prescribed measures are actually turning such gatherings into events supporting the virus that had caused the musician’s death.
“How many more need to die before people understand that the virus is no game,” asked Prokic, who is also on the executive board of the United against COVID-19 initiative, speaking for the Feb. 22 issue of the Danas daily.
The third wave has not subsided yet, Prokic warned, and the number of cases is again on the rise. Yet, it is not just the fault of the citizens and their irresponsibility or curiosity, she said, adding that the protective and preventive measures cannot be selectively applied.
“We need to stop playing the pandemic; the Crisis Headquarters and the government need to take action and be called to account for their misdeeds,” she said.
