In the evening on March 22, the 120- seat Kosovo assembly backed Albin Kurti as premier, with 67 votes in favor and 30 against.

At the beginning of the special assembly session, Kurti presented his cabinet’s priorities and candidates for ministerial posts, stressing that “if Serbia does not recognize an independent Kosovo there cannot be a normalization of relations.”

According to Kurti, “without the recognition of the reality of independent Kosovo and the acceptance of the truth by neighboring Serbia, there can be no normalization of relations between the two peoples and two countries.”

He also said that Kosovo and Serbia had open issues that needed to be resolved through dialogue, adding that no progress could be made if there was no progress in resolving the issue of the missing in Kosovo. Kurti further said that “relations with the neighbors will be developed based on reciprocity.” He underlined that Kosovo’s EU path could be challenging, but had no alternative.

Kurti stressed that his cabinet’s main goals would be combating the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as ensuring justice, boosting employment and economic development, and implementing education reform.
