Epidemiologist Predrag Kon stated on April 12 that the medical staff on the COVID-19 Crisis Headquarters has been “persistently hindering” the relaxation of measures from the beginning, by insisting that it is done as slowly as possible.

“[The measures] will be relaxed, but gradually,” Kon said for Happy TV, adding that the virus “is so present” that the number of the newly infected may easily rise.

Talking about the opening of shopping centers, he said that the facilities will have the so-called “COVID-19 inspectors” and that the number of customers who enter them will be monitored electronically. “The fact that the recommended measures are considered non-mandatory, and that we, consequently, have citizens sitting in outside sitting areas of cafes without their masks, is a great problem,” Kon explained.

Dr. Ivana Milosevic, the deputy director of the Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases in Belgrade, said on the same day that “the doctors fear” the relaxation of the preventive measures. “We fear any relaxation of measures, as they hit us the hardest,” she said for the RTS public service.

For her, the only solution is vaccination. “Warm weather won’t bring reprieve. The only good thing is the vaccine, and until half of the citizens are vaccinated, our lives won’t go back to normal,” Milosevic emphasized.
