State Secretary of the Serbian Health Ministry, Mirsad Djerlek, stated on May 6 that the number of the newly infected with COVID-19 is till very high and that it would make him happy if the figure would drop below 1000 per day.
Commenting on the opening of a vaccination station in Belgrade’s Usce shopping mall, he told the RTS public service that the government is using all means possible to make the vaccine available to everyone and that is why many “easily accessible vaccination points [are being opened] all over Serbia.”
“We want to execute a fast mass immunization,” Djerlek said.
Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on the same day that the epidemiological situation in Serbia is no longer unfavorable, but that although it has improved, it is still uncertain. He also warned that the effects of the May Day and Easter celebrations are yet to be seen.
Even though Serbia is close to opening up, its citizens “have to [still] be extremely careful,” Kon said for RTS public service, adding that another rise in numbers must not be allowed.
