Serbia’s economic recovery after the crisis triggered by the coronavirus pandemic would depend on future support of the state, but also on investments in innovations, education, the healthcare system, digitalization, and environmental protection, according to economists participating at the Kopaonik Business Forum, which is held in Belgrade this year.

According to them, state aid to businesses and citizens has to be more selective than was the case with the previous three aid packages as the impacts of the pandemic varies across industries.

Nebojsa Savic, professor at FEFA (officially Metropolitan University - FEFA, formerly known as Faculty of Economics, Finance and Administration), said that a new economic structure had to rely on a green economy and digital infrastructure. “What all forecasts about future economic developments have in common is uncertainty,” Savic noted.

Professor at the Belgrade Faculty of Economy, Dejan Soskic, suggested that Serbia and other countries in the region should timely take measures to keep educated labor force.

According to Soskic, without improved education, strengthening of institutions and more efficient fight against corruption it would not be possible to achieve higher economic growth rates.
