More than half of Serbia's citizens want Serbia to strengthen its economic relations with China and Russia instead of other countries in the region, while 84 percent of respondents said that the gap between the rich and poor was growing - the Council for Regional Cooperation's latest June 24 edition of the Balkan Barometer shows.
Serbian citizens have the most faith in rule of law in the region: 52 percent said that the law was being applied effectively, while 38 percent think that the law is equal for everyone.
Regional cooperation saw the most support (77 percent) while the majority of citizens think that it can improve the political, economic and security situations in their countries. Unemployment (49 percent) and economic development (46 percent) are still seen as the region's two key problems. In addition, citizens in the region are mostly worried about corruption and "brain drains" (26 and 13 percent).
Presenting the study, Council of Regional Cooperation secretary general Majllinda Bregu said in Tirana that 71 percent of citizens in the Western Balkans trusted institutions, while 62 percent believe that the media is not independent.
