Epidemiologist: Up To 500 Infections Per Day Does Not Call for Special Reaction

Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic stated on Aug. 3 that the situation with the coronavirus epidemic in Serbia was “still absolutely under control,” despite the rising number of infections per day.

He told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) that the number of infections was rising among the people returning from vacations, but that he did not believe that control PCR tests would be introduced for those returning to the country.

Tiodorovic told the Aug. 3 issue of the Blic daily that “up to 500 coronavirus infections” per day did not call for any special response, but warned that the authorities would have to think about additional measures if that number is exceeded.

In his words, if Serbia were to exceed the number of 1,000 infections per day, the authorities would have to react like other countries, even those like Montenegro and Greece, which are “dependent on tourism.”

“That would mean closing the night clubs and we would probably have to limit the work hours of hospitality venues,” Tiodorovic said, adding that more extensive control would be introduced in shopping malls and a cap on the allowed number of people gathering in public places.
