Remembrance Day for Killed, Expelled Serbs in Operation Storm

The Serb victims killed on Aug. 7 during Operation Storm 26 years ago, when fleeing refugees were bombed on the Petrovacka Cesta road, were commemorated in the village of Janjila, near Bosanski Petrovac.

Wreaths were laid at the Petrovacka Cesta memorial cross, and Bishop Sergije of Bihac and Petrovac served a mass for the victims. The head of the Veritas Information and Documentation Center, Savo Strbac, said that the names of the refugees killed in the attack "are among 1,800 victims, of whom, according to Veritas, 65 percent were civilians."

"It is unlikely that someone will be called to account for these crimes. The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has allegedly requested the names of the pilots who bombed the civilians. We know for certain who the pilots flying the bombers that killed the civilians on the Petrovacka Cesta road were," Strbac underlined.

Croatian MIG jets attacked a Serb refugee column fleeing on the Petrovacka Cesta on Aug. 7, 1995. Ten civilians were killed, including four children and a 21-year-old girl.
