Head of the Children's Hospital at the Clinical Center "Dragisa Misovic" Dr Verica Ostojic has said on Aug. 16 that children who have chronic health conditions should receive a Covid-19 vaccine, as it's safe and efficient, but in order to protect them properly, their parents, teachers and kindergarten staff should be immunized first.

"Children who have chronic illnesses that can make Covid-19 particularly dangerous for them should be vaccinated. Although Covid-19 in children is usually milder than in adults, we know that children, too, can spread the virus to others. Speaking of the protection of children though, it is important to note that their parents, teachers and kindergarten staff should be immunized first," Dr Ostojic said in an interview with the Danas newspaper.

When asked to comment on the opinion that "vaccines haven't been thoroughly tested," Dr Ostojic said that modern technologies had been used in the development of coronavirus vaccines, as opposed to those used in the last century, which required years of tests and trials.

Serbia has approved the vaccination of children over 12 years of age.
