Marija Zdravkovic, the director of the University Hospital Medical Center Bezanijska Kosa in Belgrade stated on Sept. 6 that it is possible that this institution will re-enter the so-called Covid hospital system because the Serbian society at large is “suffering” due to country’s low vaccination rate.

“Our outpatient clinics are overflowing and our capacities are 100 percent full. A large number of patients have health issues due to having had Covid and not being vaccinated,” Zdravkovic told the RTS public service.

Zdravkovic emphasized that Covid is a disease with serious, sometimes lasting, health consequences. “One in ten patients has cardiovascular complications that can be very dangerous. Three to five percent of Covid patients have severe complications with lasting effects, meaning they will have to take medication for the rest of their lives,” the doctor explained.

Zdravkovic added that over 70 percent of her hospital’s staff have been vaccinated against the virus, while the vaccination rate in the oncology department is 100 percent.
