Former Serbian ambassador to Germany Ognjen Pribicevic said on Sept. 9 that a planned visit by German Chancelllor Angela Merkel to Serbia and Albania one month before retirement, showed how important Germany thought the Western Balkans were.

"It is always a good thing when the German chancellor visits Serbia because Germany has always displayed an interest in this region, which largely coincides with out interests - political stability, economic progress, integration. Germany strongly supports our European integrations. Our interests are not the same where Kosovo is concerned," Pribicevic told Serbian state TV.

Pribicevic said that the Western Balkans were not its priority, but that outside of its list of priorities it was one of the most important questions. "The EU is a priority for Germany," he stressed, adding that that the chancellor wanted to show how important the Western Balkans were and that the talks would be used to further deepen relations, Pribicevic stressed.
