The president of the European Policy Center (CEP), Srdjan Majstorovic, has said in Belgrade, on Oct. 4, that enlargement is not "the most popular of themes" in the European Union (EU), but that it's good that Slovenia, currently chairing the Union's rotating presidency, is trying to reaffirm the policy of enlargement.
"I think it's very good that Slovenia is trying to reaffirm the EU enlargement policy. We must accept that it's not the most popular of themes in the Union at this point. The EU is struggling with internal problems, and any benevolent support to the enlargement process is welcome," Majstorovic said ahead of the "Round up Europe" event.
Slovenia has suggested that the Western Balkans should join the Union until 2030.
"The question is how realistic the timeline is. I like to say it's not impossible, but it requires drastic changes in behavior and in what is called political will in the European Union. Also, candidate states need to invest much more efforts and political will to make those long overdue moves," Majstorovic said.
