Analyst: Idea Is To Restore Military Industry’s Position in Yugoslav Markets

Military analyst Aleksandar Radic has said that the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement and the International Arms Fair Partner 2021 in Belgrade had been held in parallel with the idea to restore the place of the domestic defense industry in traditional Yugoslav markets.

Radic told the Oct. 12 issue of Belgrade daily Danas that the first country that had bought arms from then Yugoslavia Burma (today Myanmar) in 1953, after which trade had started to develop through the Non-Aligned Movement countries.

“It is true that over the past few years, from the mid of last decade, the main markets have been Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which can be affiliated to anything but the Non-Aligned Movement, that is, the countries which are not a part of this political story from the past,” Radic said.

According to him, the market conditions have been created in the Middle East, and the question is whether cooperation with such clients could be sustainable in the long run. “Obviously, the idea is to return Serbia to traditional Yugoslav markets, to position it there and continue activities,” Radic noted.
