51 people died from the consequences of the coronavirus infection in Serbia in the past 24 hours and there were 6,699 newly infected, it was announced on Oct. 13.

According to the announcement on the Health Ministry's web-site, 22,314 people were tested in that period. There are 6,597 covid patients currently being treated in hospitals, 288 of them on ventilators. Since the start of the epidemic in Serbia, 8,892 people have died from covid-19 and 5,920,403 samples have been tested, 1,024,497 of which were positive for the virus.

The assistant director of the University Clinical Center Nis and coordinator of the covid hospital in the new building in the Center, Radivoj Korac, has stated that this institution had a large number of patient admissions in the past few days and that their capacity was 90 to 95 percent full.

"Sadly, a lot of people still refuse to recognize corona, they view it as something imaginary and many come to the hospital in a very bad state, after having tried to treat themselves at home for 10, 12 or 14 days," Korac told BETA.
