59 people died from the consequences of the coronavirus infection in Serbia in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities to 9,331, it was announced on Oct. 21.

According to figures of Serbia's Institute for Public Health, there were 7,327 new infections among 25,039 tested people in the past 24 hours. 6,711 patients are currently being treated for the disease in hospitals, 287 of them on ventilators. 6,095,791 people have been tested since the start of the epidemic in Serbia, and the presence of the virus was confirmed in 1,078,032 cases.

The deputy director of the University Clinical Center in Nis, Radmilo Jankovic, stated on Oct. 21 that the effect of covid passes would be "zero, unfortunately."

He assessed in an interview to RTS that the coronavirus epidemic could not be stopped without serious measures against it. "Covid passes will not be sufficient to stop the epidemic in Serbia. Besides being a message and having a symbolic purpose, covid passes will have zero effect on the number of infections," he stated.
