On Jan. 13, the eve of the Serbian Orthodox New Year, internationally renowned musician Goran Bregovic and his "Wedding and Funeral Band" will perform at the Dubai World Expo 2020, taking one of the event's largest stages, the Jubilee Stage. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. local time and is part of Serbia's program for the exposition, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce has announced.
"Goran Bregovic's performance at the World Expo in Dubai will give us an opportunity to present the music of our country and the Balkans -- [music] which transcends borders, genres, types and religion. Music which brings [people] together. [Bregovic's] ensemble is an eclectic mix of musicians from the former Yugoslavia and from Bulgaria -- which allows for the [band's] broad repertoire," the press release said.
Originally postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Expo 2020 Dubai is a world expo hosted by the United Arab Emirates that commenced on Oct. 1, 2021 and will end on March 31, 2022. The theme of Serbia's presentation at the exhibition is "Serbia creates ideas -- Inspired by the past, we shape the future."
"Through an inviting and original program, which entails over 150 different events over the span of six months, our leading artists, performers, musicians [and] creatives will have the chance to present themselves to the whole world and, as the best creative ambassadors, present Serbia as well," the statement reads.
The Serbian Chamber of Commerce also stated that, so far, Serbia's Pavilion has had over half a million visitors.
