Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on Jan. 27 said that the EU had never before had a more positive position on Serbia, where reforms in the rule of law had been made a priority.
“We were making monthly reports on the rule of law and submitting them to all EU member states and we also had regular meetings with ambassadors of the EU countries, which is why officials in Brussels could not say that not enough has been done,” Brnabic told state public broadcaster RTS.
Brnabic also said that Brussels’ position on Serbia was also proved with nine meetings held in a single day during Serbia’s delegation visit to Brussels. She said that one of the topics discussed in Brussels was the dialogue with Pristina. “We mainly talked about deprivation of rights of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and I hope that Pristina will not again ban the Serbs from voting in the next elections,” the prime minister said.
She also said threats on the life of President Aleksandar Vucic had not been eliminated, adding “I believe that we will do it, but we have to continue working day in, day out” to prevent any such attempt.
“Unfortunately, at this moment, all those for whom Europe possess the evidence of involvement in plotting to assassin President Vucic are out of reach of our intelligence services. We cannot reach them. The suspects include two Montenegro’s nationals, some are citizens of the EU and some of non-EU countries,” Brnabic specified.
