Parliament of Free Serbia member attorney Bozo Prelevic said on Feb. 8 that if it wins elections the opposition needed to create a government of experts.
Prelevic told BETA that Serbia needed its political system to change and not party membership cards, and that this could be done only by securing a government made up of experts. "The incumbent authorities have completely devastated the work of existing ministries and this is the worst catastrophe that could have happened. A government of experts would first have to take stock of things, so that we can see where Serbia is, how big its debts are, what has been privatized and what were the previous government's promises, and what is left of the country, that hasn't been gnawed off," Prelevic said.
According to him, the new authorities will have to restore freedom to the media, curb the appetites of large multinational corporations and plot a realistic course for future development. Prelevic also said that it was necessary to call those who were responsible for the situation that Serbia was in to account.
"Serbia does not need revanchism, but the security services, police, prosecutors and courts must do their job independently. Had these institutions done their job, Serbia would not be a criminalized state," Prelevic said.
