Dobrica Veselinovic, a candidate for Belgrade mayor nominated by the coalition We Must, said on March 30 that the coalition launched a procedure to team up with “a family of European green organizations, movements and parties,” they had been invited to join.
“We believe that coming to grips with climate change and growing social and economic inequalities is a vital issue in Serbia, and for Serbia,” Veselinovic said to reporters at the Belgrade Media Center.
Thomas Waitz, co-chairing the European Green Party, said that this party supported the Serbian coalition’s battle, confirming that membership of We Must was in the process of consideration. Waitz said that the coalition had been committed to the trend spreading across the European Union.
The lead candidate on the We Must list for parliamentary elections, Nebojsa Zelenovic, said that Waitz’s visit and the idea to verify the coalition’s request for membership of the European Green Party could be interpreted as a signal of support to the coalition’s campaign for parliamentary polls and elections in the capital. Zelenovic said that Serbia was ready for change, and that it would happen right after the elections next Sunday.
