European Parliament Member (MEP) and rapporteur for Kosovo Viola von Cramon said on Apr. 5 that elections in Serbia were neither free nor fair as well as that Serbia would face political and financial consequences unless it imposed sanctions against Russia.
"After the boycott in 2020, Serbian elections in 2022 showed a positive development such as a large number of voters who wanted to vote. Still, the elections were neither free nor fair," she tweeted.
Serbia, she said, would again have a pluralistic and varied parliament. "Numerous problems were registered before and after election day which obstructs the expression of free will and prevents a fair competitive environment," she said.
"Considering its aspirations to join the EU Serbia must uphold its basic values. The ruling Serbian Progressive Party and re-elected president Aleksandar Vucic have been given a new mandate, and thereby duty to renew democracy and the rule of law and take reforms in the process of European integrations seriously," she said.
