Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on June 15 said that if the West put Serbia under too much pressure to impose sanctions on Russia, it could be harmful to the entire region, and asked for an understanding for Belgrade’s position on the matter.

“You have to understand that Serbia is in a very different position from other countries due to its history and its special ties with Russia,” Rama told Brussels portal Politico. Rama also said that over the course of time, Serbia should impose sanctions against Russia, but warned that pressure should not be exerted on Belgrade, which was largely dependent on Moscow’s fuels, to impose sanctions too early.

“To demand from them to do it right away and completely is practically impossible... It would be suicide for their economy,” Rama said and warned that too much pressure by the West on Serbia could be harmful to the stability of the entire Western Balkan region.
