The EU's ambassador to Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret, said on July 30 that opposing Russia's unilateral aggression was a task for the entire global community and that the EU was counting on Serbia to stand by it and also oppose the aggression.
In an interview with the Blic daily, Giaufret said that, historically speaking, Russia had made a great contribution to European culture and that he understood that many people in Serbia had a strong emotional connection to Russia. But these emotions should not be mixed with a positive view of the Russian government's aggressive policy, he added.
He also said he was looking forward to the creation of a new Serbian parliament and government.
"The president (of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic) has again confirmed that EU accession remains Serbia's strategic goal and I look forward to working with a government that is fully committed to this common goal and able to efficiently respond to all key questions that are on our agenda: strengthening the rule of law, cultivating the freedom of the media, curbing climate change and harmonization in the area of foreign policy," said Giaufret.
