U.S. Blacklist Includes Russian Duma Member with Serbian Citizenship

Alexandar Babakov, a former special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been listed among the Serbian nationals blacklisted by the U.S. It is unknown when Babakov acquired Serbian citizenship.

According to the Aug. 17 edition of the Nova daily, Babakov is currently serving as deputy parliament speaker of the Russian State Duma and has been sanctioned by the U.S. for years.

At present, the U.S. list of Specially Designated Nationals i.e. individuals and entities sanctioned by the U.S.A. includes 37 persons and companies from Serbia. Among these are arms dealer Slobodan Tesic, former president of the state union of Serbia and Montenegro Svetozar Marovic, and vice president of the Serb List Milan Radoicic, Nova reports.
