Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sept. 2 that the Balkan countries and peoples had great potential when they worked together and believed in themselves.

"In the Balkans we always sell ourselves short. We think we're an inferior race that exists to serve or join someone else. But we have potential when we stand together and believe in ourselves," Vucic said at the final news conference of an Open Balkan initiative leaders' summit.

Vucic said that peace, stability and progress had to be the objective of every country in the region, not which politician said what to whom or who got in whose face.

He said Serbia would give up neither its friendship with Turkey nor Hungary. "We are and remain on the European path. But we will not cut off our own foot for a pat on the head," he said.
