President Aleksandar Vucic has said that Serbia would be left without gas and electricity, if natural gas pipeline TurkStream was destroyed, adding he will demand from the Security Intelligence Agency and the police to ensure protection of the entire pipeline branch running through Serbia against potential acts of sabotage.

“It has not been noticed in media outlets, although their reporters have cited (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin as saying that an attempt has been made at sabotaging TurkStream and cutting off gas supplies. If it had happened, I do not know what we would do, because it would put cogeneration plants in Novi Sad, Zrenjanin and Pancevo out of operation. It would mean no gas supply and without gas we do not have anything despite our historic high gas storage levels,” Vucic told reporters in the evening on Oct. 10 after meeting UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahya, who has paid an announced visit to Serbia.

Vucic stressed that in case gas supplies through TurkStream were cut off, Serbia would be left without electricity and gas for six months.

Vucic added he would request additional information from Russia on the attempt to sabotage TurkStream and would also demand additional protection of the entire branch running through Serbia.
