People’s Party leader Vuk Jeremic has said that Belgrade should reject the EU proposal, under which Serbia should recognize Kosovo and Metohija as an independent state, and would in exchange receive, he said, a temporary continuation of illusion that it will join the EU.
“Serbia would not be admitted into the EU even if it recognized ‘Kosovo’ and therefore it must reject the French-German plan for independence of Kosovo and Metohija and redefine its relations with the EU in a way which will aspire for a membership in the European Economic Area (EEA), which is achievable and does not require recognition of ‘Kosovo’,” Jeremic told TV Blic.
Jeremic also said that no other Western Balkan country would become a member of the EU, but of the EEA, which implied implementation of the internal reforms very similar to those required in the EU accession process.
“The EEA is everything as the EU is, except for the common foreign and security policy which Serbia cannot share with the EU due to inadmissible demands to recognize Kosovo and impose sanctions against Russia. It is also linked with Kosovo and Metohija, as one cannot in parallel be against independence of ‘Kosovo’ and for sanctions against Russia due to Moscow’s right to veto in the UN Security Council,” Jeremic specified.
