The municipality of New Belgrade legalized an illegally expanded building in Bezanijska Kosa owned by Belgrade City Mayor Aleksandar Sapic, despite the lack of proper legal prerequisites for said procedure, the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) reported on Oct. 13.
According to the BIRN website, the municipality officially legalized Sapic's house in late July, just over a month after he became mayor of the capital.
The size of the seven-room residential unit is 340 square meters.
"The municipality made this decision despite the fact that the legalized building did not exist -- in its current shape or size -- on the Republic Geodetic Authority's satellite images from 2015, which, according to the Law on Legalizing Structures, is the first prerequisite for even beginning the process of legalizing an illegally built structure,” BIRN wrote.
