EU ambassador to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret has said that the EU urges Serbia to improve its alignment with the EU's foreign policy, because it wants to be able to count on its closest allies being completely by its side.
In an interview with the Oct. 16 issue of daily Blic, Giaufret said that progressive harmonization with the EU's foreign policy was not a new requirement and that it was part of the negotiation framework.
"The EU does not change the rules of the game. Last year, Serbia made a considerable effort to increase its alignment with the EU's foreign policy. Certainly since Russia's all-out invasion of Ukraine, that has held greater importance for all of Europe, for all citizens of the EU," said Giaufret. Speaking of "the consequences of the Russian aggression," he said that it "is the number one topic which Europe should deal with collectively."
