Radmila Sekerinska, a former senior official of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, announced on Oct. 14 that she had been elected vice-president of the Party of European Socialists (PES).
"It is my great honor to inform you that I was elected vice-president of the Party of European Socialists at the Congress in Berlin. The honor is all the greater since this is the first time that PES is electing a person from a country that is not a member of the EU to that position," Sekerinska said in a Facebook post.
Among numerous party positions Radmila Sekerinska, 50, also occupied the post of president and vice-president of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, and was the acting prime minister in 2004, deputy prime minister for European integration in 2002-2006, and the North Macedonian defense minister in Zoran Zaev's first cabinet.
Long-time prime minister of Sweden and leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party Stefan Lofven was elected the new president of PES at the party congress in Berlin.
