Dacic: EU's Reaction to Rasic's Appointment Lukewarm, Serbia Will Not Attend EU-Western Balkans Summit

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has said regarding the appointment of Nenad Rasic as a minister in the Kosovo government that Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti "has brought his own Serbs (into the government) to achieve Greater Albanian goals."

As a guest on a show on Pink TV, on Dec. 2, Dacic said Kurti was the main threat factor in the region and "an immature politician who wants to destabilize the whole region with his moves."

Dacic also said that what was "especially irritating" was the position of the EU, which was constantly condemning or appealing to both sides. "The EU's reaction to the undoubted stopping of the Brussels dialogue, instead of being fierce, is completely lukewarm," he said.

Dacic added that he supported an announcement by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic that for this reason Serbia would not take part in the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tirana on Dec. 6. "That would be completely ludicrous and useless while such things are happening in the field," said Dacic.

EU Spokesperson Peter Stano said on Dec. 1, regarding Rasic's appointment, that it was vital that Pristina respect all the necessary steps in the process of appointing ministers who represent a non-majority community. He called on both sides to urgently work on the return of the Kosovo Serbs to all Kosovo institutions, in line with the binding agreements reached in the dialogue.
