High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said on Dec. 11 that the “European Union (EU) will not tolerate attacks against EULEX in Kosovo,"  nor violence and crimes in the north and urged Kosovo Serbs to remove their barricades immediately.

“The groups of Kosovo Serbs must remove the barricades immediately. Calm must be restored,” Borrell wrote on Twitter, adding that the EULEX will continue to coordinate its actions with the Kosovo authorities and the Kosovo Force (KFOR).

“All actors must avoid an escalation,” Borrell cautioned.

The main routes in the north of Kosovo have been blocked since Dec. 10, while the Brnjak and Jarinje administrative crossings are closed for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The barricades were erected by the Serbs in Kosovo’s north after the arrest of a former member of Kosovo police, Dejan Pantic. Kosovo police said that said two administrative crossings had been closed as a precaution.
